  • If an assistant or anyone in your course is listed with the wrong role, it can be changed as follows: If the person was automatically placed in the course roster To see more about the TA roles and permissions, see TA Role and Permissions in Canvas. If you need an assistant to complete any function not available in the TA role, you can make that person a Course Admin or change your workflow. The two roles that can complete any function are Teacher and Course Admin. Note: This role is meant for instructional designers working with an instructor.
  • A Designer can edit quizzes, rubrics, and all other content types and publish any kind of content, but is unable to enter or change grade data, see student submissions or communicate with students.
  • Note: This role would be appropriate for a grader as well as a TA communicating with students.
  • A TA (Teaching Assistant) can grade students, moderate discussions, and post announcements, but cannot edit any content such as quizzes or assignments (including changing assignment deadlines).
  • The only other role that can complete all Teacher functions is the Course Admin.
  • Instructors of record are assigned the role of Teacher and can complete any course edit/additions/deletions.
  • Roles in Canvas do not always correspond with roles in ANGEL. Note: Thanks to Stevie Rocco from the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences for providing additional information.
